Shirley W. Broga
Shirley was born Shirley Justine Wilcox on August 13, 1926 in Prospect Park, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Harry Wilcox and Justine Doolittle. She had two siblings, Harry Jr and Marilyn, who will celebrate her 100th birthday on June 13, 2022.
Shirley’s extensive blended family included: five children - Chris, Jenifer, Lisa, Tim, and Wayne; eight grandchildren - Bryan, Crystal, Elizabeth, Emily, Misty, Sara Jane, Slade, and William; twelve great grandchildren - Cora, Dillan, Ethan, Everly, Hailey, John, Juliet, Justine, Kylie, Mercedes, Nicholas, and Tim; and one great great grandchild - Ben.
Shirley was adventurous and loved to travel and explore, especially with her sole mate and late husband, Paul Broga. World visits included Europe, the Caribbean, and the South Pacific. She and Paul also visited most of the United States from Florida to Alaska and Maine to Hawaii. They lived for many years in North Idaho after retirement. While living there she volunteered to help teach reading to elementary school children. Shirley enjoyed the outdoors and being in nature. Her many outdoor activities included camping, hiking, canoeing, skiing, fishing, boating, golfing, four wheeling, and riding motorcycles. In her later life she took up oil painting; and enjoyed playing cards and bingo with all her many friends in her Florida community .
My, oh my, how Shirley loved her dogs, and all dogs. She could never walk by a dog without stopping to say hello and give it some loving. She used to say, semi seriously, that she liked dogs much better than people.
