Sonia Angela Crawford (nee Markland), affectionately called Sister Sonia, was born on Wednesday, June 6, 1962, in Irish Town, Saint Andrews, Jamaica. At age five she was relocated to Red Hills, Jamaica. She later dedicated her life to the lord and joined F.C.M. Church of God in Red Hills, St. Andrews, Jamaica.
She was always shouting for the Lord. If you didn’t want to hear her, she would shout even louder. She was best known for praying. Sonia would pray for anyone in need because she always wanted to provide comfort to others.
Later in her life, Sonia migrated to Port St Lucie, Florida, where she became a member of Berean Church of God. That was where she met her beloved husband and best friend Denham Crawford. She loved to fellowship and the church members embraced her. In her church, she learnt to express her love for others, and never to take life for granted, which is something she passed on to others who crossed her path. This is something she has always cherished.
She worked in the Health Care Field, as a Provider, assisting individuals with Developmental disabilities. She was a great asset to her company. She was a highly skilled employee that was driven, motivated and dedicated. She was so driven to be a dutiful employee, that even while she was confined to a hospital bed, Sonia continued to ensure that coverage was provided for her clients.
If you truly knew Sonia, you knew that she loved the lord and her family. She was a wonderful, dedicated wife, mother, aunt, niece, sister, daughter and a friend.
We all have our own special memories of the marks she left in our hearts and lives. Today, we are trying our best to focus on the happier times that she brought us, rather than the fact that our dear loved one is no longer with us. We often wonder how we could have gotten such a precious gift and have her removed from us. Sonia left an impact on everyone that knew her. She was the light in our lives and reminded all of us of the driving force that we must have with our faith in times of need and doubt.
God saw the road was getting rough; the hills were hard to climb. So, on Wednesday December 21, 2016, He gently closed her loving eyes and whispered “well done my child, your work here is done”
This day is a hard day for us all. It is so much easier for us to mourn in silence. It takes away the worries of not being able to express the words or simply getting the right words out. But whether we are silent or not, one thing I am sure we will appreciate today, is being here together to celebrate her life, and the love that she left with us.
Sonia Angela Crawford leaves us to cherish her precious memories, her husband of fourteen years, Denham Crawford, four children, Danville (Von) Stewart, Matthew Stewart, Paige Elizabeth Stewart, and Ethan Crawford, who were the love of her life. She also leaves behind: Her mother, Marva Morris, her two brothers, Junior Markland, Colin Markland, her two sisters, Beverly Markland, Shirley Firenze, her nephew and nieces, Michael Firenze, Crystal Alexi, and Andrene Ogilvie, her aunts, Veta Hilbert (Aunt Veta), Mildred McGregor and a host of other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Gorger Frances and Byron Markland and her father, Phillip Markland.
We wish you sweet sleep, Sonia. No more suffering, sickness, or pain. Saying goodbye to you is one of the hardest things to do. We can promise you this; there will never be anyone to take your place. The Bible says that God will open the eyes of those who have done well on earth. Sonia, you have done well. Therefore, we will wait until it is our time to see you again, if we are as dedicated, as you were, Sleep on Sister Sonia. Sleep Tight
