Stephen J. Bohannon

November 17, 1950 — September 17, 2020

On the evening of September 17th, 2020, Stephen J. Bohannon traded his earthly guitar for a shiny, new heavenly one at the age of 69 with his daughters and sons-in-law at his side. Though those on Earth will miss hearing his voice, heaven gained a special new addition to their angel choir and Steve is now enjoying the bliss of singing God’s eternal praises.

Steve was born on November 17th, 1950 in Lake City, Florida to Ivory (Bud) and Annie Mae, and he resided as an adult in Okeechobee, Florida for over 45 years. He loved his family, fishing, boating, riding his motorcycle, going to the movies, singing, and guitar playin’. He spent most of his childhood in Leesburg, Florida helping his parent’s with their store. As a young adult, he worked for Bohannon and Son’s Grove Management with his father and two brothers, Bill and Gary. He also became a long distance truck driver with Bill. He was skilled in carpentry and technical repairs, and was a great example of a Jack of all Trades. Later he worked as a truck driver for Tropicana and then promoted to the supervisory position of Field Representative. He retired with Tropicana after 30 years of service and was known there for his hard work, dedication, and the kindness he showed to all he met. Steve never met a stranger and could make anyone feel like they were family.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ivory William Bohannon and Annie Mae Taylor, as well as his brother Gary Bohannon. He is survived by his daughters Amy (Daniel) Finke, Robin (Aaron) Levy, Jennifer (Peter) Savage, and his nephew Shane (Jennifer) Bohannon. He is survived by his grandchildren Bobby Savage, Carie (Zachary) Moore, Ashley Finke, Megan Savage, Katie Levy, Emily Finke, Shane Savage, Rebekah Levy, Adam Savage, Seth Bohannon, Beth Levy, Kimmy Savage, Aubrey Bohannon, and his great granddaughter Sophia Moore. He is also survived by his brother, William (Linda) Bohannon.

Steve was known for being endlessly funny. He had a joke for every situation and could make anyone laugh no matter what. If Steve was around, you could expect to laugh until your stomach hurt, be told how much you meant to him, and be showered with compliments. He loved making people happy and brightening their day.

Everyone who knew Steve knew that he was a talented singer and musician. As a teenager, Steve taught himself how to play the guitar, and as an adult played like someone who had received countless lessons. Listening to his music was always considered a treat by his children and grandchildren, and it was common for them to sit around him at his feet as he played the guitar and sang to them. He passed on his love for music to all of his grandchildren and to his great granddaughter.

Perhaps the only thing that he loved more than his music was his family. He adored his family and endlessly expressed his pride for them. He has blessed each of them with so many wonderful memories of his love, music, goofiness, and big bear hugs. He was a light in the world, and he left behind a beautiful legacy of joy, playfulness, and love. He will be dearly missed, but his memory will certainly always bring a smile and perhaps even a chuckle to those who knew him and loved him.
