Stephen Edmund Murray

Stephen Edmund Murray passed away February 2, 2017 at Treasure Coast Hospice House, St. Lucie, FL at the age of 60.

Stephen was born on January 8, 1957 to Edmund & Jane (Greer) Murray in Chicoppee, Massachusetts. Eventually the Murray family settled in Aberdeen, SD. In 1975, Steve joined the Marine Corp and in May, 1975 married Mitzi (Bergseth) Murray. Together they had three beautiful daughters; Sara, Heather and Nicole and were also blessed with 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Steve was a loyal, dedicated, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and best friend.

While in the Marine Corp he trained for and was certified as an F-4 Phantom II aircraft mechanic. He earned his FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certification in 1984 while working for Thorson Jet-Air in Aberdeen, SD. He received his Associates Degree in Pre-Engineering from Northern State College in 1986. In 1988, Steve earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. He was offered a position with Pratt & Whitney and moved his family to Southern Florida. He was employed with Florida Turbine and Technology as a senior design engineer for over 15 years. He designed turbines for military jet engines and held several patents for his designs.

Steve always had a love of anything mechanical and enjoyed working on cars, motorcycles, & airplanes. His hobbies included riding his Harley Davidson Road King, listening to music and playing guitar, and spending time with his family by the pool.

He will be missed very much by his wife, Mitzi; his daughters, Sara, Heather and Nicole; grandsons, Joshua and Jaeden; granddaughters, Kayla, Janelle and Jillian; great-grandson, Kacen; great-grand-daughter, Kierstin, and brother, Timothy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Jane Murray.
