Sylvia M. Chasar, 86, of Port St. Lucie, FL passed away surrounded by her family on September 9, 2024.
Sally or Sal, as she was affectionately known, was born on December 23, 1937 in Shade Township, PA. She graduated from Shade High School with the class of 1955. Two years later, on August 17, 1957, Sally married the love of her life, John S. Chasar at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Windber, PA.
The Chasars were residents of Rootstown, OH, for 59 years where Sally worked around the clock raising 8 children and later caring for 2 grandchildren, while keeping a spotless home, cooking breakfast, packing lunches, baking, and having family dinners together.
Sally loved spending time with her family, cooking and baking, she especially enjoyed the company of her "favorite grandson" and protector Hippo Heart Horvath. She always met the needs of her family and put them first. When she did take some time for herself, she enjoyed shopping, summer stops at NBIC, casino trips, playing keno, scratching lottery tickets, and completing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. When she really wanted to pamper herself, she loved going out to lunch, having her hair done by her special hairdresser, Tara, getting manicures and pedicures, and attending physical therapy and Rock Steady boxing, where her boxing name was “Bam Bam”.
Sally will be remembered for being quiet and reserved but very quick-witted, which earned her the nickname "Sally Stinker". Sally was a kind, caring and loving spirit, with the rare distinction of never being known to have made a disparaging remark about another person.
Her memory will be cherished by her survivors, sons Jon (Michele) Chasar of Peoria, AZ; Andy (Denise) Chasar of Leetonia, OH; and Steven Chasar of Chandler, AZ; daughters Melanie (Barry) Horvath of Lake Worth, FL; Tamara Swartout of Port St. Lucie, FL; Jonnie Casey of Cocoa, FL; and Shanie (Scott) Scarlett of Atwater, OH; daughter-in-law, Wendy Chasar of Medina, OH; siblings, Sonia Flanigan of Edgewater, MD and Frank (Madelyn) Hancher of Columbia Station, OH; and sister-in-law, Donna of Atascocita, TX.
She will be greatly missed by nieces, nephews, 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, special pets Hippo & Kitty Horvath and Taylor & Magnolia Swartout, and many loving friends. She will be especially and forever missed by friend, Kathy Salmeron and instigator/grandson/best buddy Jeffrey Horvath.
Her brother, Peter passed away less than 48 hours later, on September 11th, 2024.
She was predeceased by John S. Chasar (husband), Timothy Chasar (son) aka "Brother Love", Stephanie Chasar (daughter-in-law), Ralph Swartout (son-in-law), George and Katherine Hancher (parents), and siblings John Hancher, Mary Gernsback, Sue Jakimetz, Ann Albert, Mike Hancher, Paul Hancher, Helen Shima, George Hancher, Alec Hancher, and Fred Hancher.
