Terry Ann Gallozzi

February 23, 1952 — August 2, 2009

“Strawberry” Terry Gallozzi was born on February 23, 1952 in Flushing, NY. In 1972 Ms. Gallozzi moved to Ft. Pierce, Fl where she spent the next 30 years involving herself in the various cultural aspects of the Ft. Pierce community.

“Strawberry” Terry was a prominent sign painter in Ft. Pierce learning to letter from “Buck” Bucklin. She lettered many of our local boats, planes, and race cars as well as large signs and buildings such as the P. P. Cobb building. In her later years in Ft. Pierce Terry began to bend glass in another of her interests – neon signs. Her professional presence is found in every segment of the city that she took great pride in.

Ms. Gallozzi enjoyed various styles of dance and music. She was a very proud participant of the Joy Gould dance studio where she cultivated her skills in ballet, tap, and jazz. “Strawberry” also brought many of her friends the experience of Middle Eastern belly dancing. Her love for this art encouraged many young people, including her niece Peyton Cosgrave to try new experiences in the dancing arts.

Terry received an A.S. degree in graphic arts at Indian River Community College. She learned to strengthen her artistic skills in design and painting. To view her design talents one simply has to view the Ft. Pierce bench of the three cow faces dedicated to her sister Maggie Cosgrave as well as the many signs around the city known to be hers.

“Strawberry” Terry loved the art and history of Ft. Pierce. She was very involved with the Treasure Coast Art Association (TCAA) where she influenced and was influenced by many of our Ft. Pierce artists. Also, Terry was very active in the St. Lucie Historical Society supporting the promotion of Zora Neale Hurston.

Ms. Gallozzi loved education. She believed that every person, every day should learn something new. “Strawberry’s” interest in art education led her to become a live figure model for a number of artists and art schools putting her proverbial thumb print in the many art studios of South Florida.

There is not enough room to express all “Strawberry” Terry contributed to the city of Ft. Pierce. She will be missed greatly by all who loved her. Terry is survived by her sisters, Maggie G. (Greg) Cosgrave of Ft. Pierce, FL, Kim Gallozzi of Stuart, FL, Sally (Edward) King of Virginia Beach, VA, and Tiffany J. Gallozzi of Hendersonville, NC; and brother, Robert (Nancy) Gallozzi of Ft. Pierce, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Salvatore & Ardeth Gallozzi. Memorial services will be held on Monday, August 10, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Haisley Funeral Home on Okeechobee Rd. in Ft. Pierce, and on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at TCAA on 223 Avenue A in Ft. Pierce.
