Senior Captain Terry Schutte, 74, of Port St. Lucie, FL passed away peacefully on September 28th, 2020 with his beloved wife, Carolina, by his side.
Terry was a well-respected pilot and Director of Operations for several Part 135 charter companies in South Florida. Over his career, which began in the 1970’s, Terry had accumulated well over 50,000 hours of flight time across the world.
While employed as a private pilot in Ecuador, Terry met Carolina, who was a flight attendant. Terry and Carolina were friends for many years while in Ecuador, dated for 3 years, and later married in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1998. Terry and Carolina shared a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ type of love for each other in the purest of forms.
Prior to flying, Terry owned and operated a gas station and mechanic shop in his hometown of East Hampton, New York called Olympic Heights Service Station. Terry also raised 3 wonderful children in East Hampton; Patrick (Reni), Kim, and Audra (Michael), with whom he loved with all his heart. Terry’s twin sister, Pat Mansir, still resides in their hometown.
Terry was blessed with 7 awesome grandchildren: Ryan Schutte, Abigail Schutte, Olivia Schutte, Nicholas Gosenski, Emily Settle, Jenna Settle, and Ashley Helstowski. Terry was so very proud of his grandchildren.
Terry not only leaves behind his wife, children, and grandchildren, but countless others - including friends, pilots, and coworkers, all of which he treated like family. He was a mentor to so many. Terry was one of the most genuine and kind-hearted individuals that has ever walked this earth.
And since he has gone, we have no doubt that he is flying high above us, with the bluest of skies and tailwinds. Until we all meet again, Captain, wheels up.
Terry has joined his daughter, Audra Schutte-Balcuns, his grandson, Nicholas Gosenski, his brother, Gary Schutte, and parents, Graham and Audrey Schutte, in heaven.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 5th from 3pm – 6pm, with a brief Memorial Service at 6pm at Haisley Tribute Center 2041 SW Bayshore Blvd Port Saint Lucie, Florida 34984.
