Thomas J. Buckley passed away peacefully on September 12, 2022 at the age of 87 surrounded by family.
Tom was born on July 23, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA to William and Dorothy Buckley. Tom attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic School in Philadelphia and was a proud graduate of The University of Miami.
In 1978, Tom founded a developmental center to serve handicapped adults in the Broward County area. Believing he was called by God to work with the poor and less fortunate, Tom named the center “Lucanus” after Luke, the beloved physician in the Bible, who gave up his practice of medicine to point people to the Lord Jesus Christ. Tom took great pride in his work and ensured that the agency stayed true to its mission, eventually enrolling over 300 handicapped adults. A humble man, Tom was respected and loved by his work family and the clients he served.
Tom loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed watching sporting events, traveling, landscaping, and preparing for special events and holidays. Most notably, he was known for his splendid Christmas decorations.
Tom leaves to mourn his passing, beloved wife, Carol; children and sons-and daughters-in-law, Michael and Kaye Buckley, Tom and Cathy Buckley, Patty and Mike Coughlin, Colleen and Skip Nolan, Judy Buckley, and Chris Buckley and Jennifer Kimmerling; brother, Jack Buckley and sister, Natalie Quiney; nephews, Tommy and Rich Quinney.
