Thomas Dale Embry

Thomas Dale Embry, age 75, died on September 28, 2009 in Port St. Lucie, FL. He was born in Valley Station, KY and moved here in 1970, coming from Charleston, IL.

He attended Murray State College and held the Kentucky State record in 440 meter hurtles. He served in the US Navy stationed at Sasebo Naval Base during the Korean conflict where he and served aboard the USS Graffius and USS Ajax. He retired from the Naval Reserves after 20 years of service at the rank of Commander. He was a professor at IRSC in Ft Pierce for 30 years where he taught general science, physics, and astronomy. He had a passion for astronomy was the driving force behind what is now known as the Hallstrom Planetarium.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Embry of Orlando, FL; his daughter, Catherine Back of Fort Pierce, his sons; Todd Embry of Port St. Lucie, Paul Embry of Fort Pierce, Alex Embry of Orlando, Richard Embry of Orlando, Noah Embry of Orlando; daughter, Alicia Embry of Fort Pierce; son, Brian Embry of North Carolina; sisters, Mary Ann Doughtery of Louisville, KY, Thelma Andreson of Sebastian, FL, Sharon Michael of Michigan, and 10 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Treasure Coast Food Bank, 3051 Industrial 25th Street , Ft. Pierce, FL 34946.

Friends may call on Friday, October 2nd, from 4-6 PM at Haisley Funeral & Cremation Service. A funeral service will immediately follow at 6PM, with Rev. Bob Rosberry officiating. Military Honors will be presented. Burial will be at sea, will follow at a later date. A reception will be held at the conclusion of the service, at the Haisley Funeral Home Family Center.
