Thomas J. McCants, 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 13, 2004.
Mr. McCants was born in West Palm Beach, Florida and moved to Ft. Pierce in 1968 coming from West Palm Beach.He started working at Florida Power & Light as a lineman and retired as the district superintendent in Ft. Pierce. He was of the Methodist faith, and served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was also very active in the Masonic Order including: member of the Blue Lodge, serving as Worshipful Master- Ft. Pierce #87- 1984, and District Deputy Grand Master of Grand Lodge of Florida -1986; member of York Rite, serving as High Priest- Joppa Chapter Royal Arch Masons (RAM) #26- 1982, Illustrious Master- Tryian Council Royal and Select Masters #38 -1987, Eminent Commander- St. Lucie Commandry #17- Knight’s Templar- 1983, 2002, 2003, and District Deputy Grand High Priest of the Grand Royal Arch of York Rite Masons of Florida- 1984; his York Rite Awards include, Gold Key Award-Royal Arch Masons, John Bridge Phelps York Rite College, KYCH- Knights of York Cross Honors, and Red Cross of Constantine & Appendent Orders; member of Scottish Rite, 32* KCCH- Knight Commander Court of Honor; Other Masonic Memberships include, 30th Masonic District- (Masters & Wardens), and Amara Temple (Charter Member) – Shrine Temple.Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Jackie McCants of Ft. Pierce, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Pat McCants of Port St. Lucie, FL; daughter, Janie McCants of Stuart, FL; brothers, John McCants of Fellsmere, FL, and James McCants of West Palm Beach, FL; sisters, Mary Katherine McCann of West Palm Beach, FL, and Marsha Jo Lemstrom of Ft. McCoy, FL; grandchildren, Brian McCants of Mooresville, NC, Brady McCants of Tampa, FL, and Bryce McCants of Port St. Lucie, FL; he was preceded in death by Lloyd McCants.He was a family man and loved his family very much. He loved his dog, Zoe, and referred to her as “baby girl”. He was happiest when he was at his cabin in Murphy, North Carolina. He was known as “Poppa” by his three grandsons, Brian, Brady, and Bryce who loved him very much. One of his favorite sayings was “Stick with me and you’ll be walkin in High Cotton!” He will be deeply missed by his family who loved him so very much!Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Treasure Coast, 805 Virginia Ave., Ste. 1, Ft.
