Tony Dil

May 10, 1945 — September 24, 2022

Tony Dil left this world on Saturday, the 24th of September 2022 at the age of 77 at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Trinidad on the 10th of May 1945.

Tony immigrated to New York in October 1967 at the age of 22. There he met the love of his life, Indra. They were married in October 1969 and had two beautiful daughters. From early on, Tony made lifelong connections and friends that became family. He later retired to Florida in 1993.

Mr. Dil as he was affectionately called by his grandson, had a lifelong passion for motorcycles, fast cars, photography, competitive bowling and westerns. He could name every western star and had seen every movie at least a dozen times. Maybe that’s where his love for wearing western boots with his suits came from. In his younger days, he was known for purchasing the latest model car every 3-4 years. To this day, his car and driver and motortrend magazines still arrive at the house.

Harley Davidson t-shirts under his dress shirts, big belt buckles, occasional cowboy hat, old-school pocket handkerchiefs and any type of boots would do. He often told us how when he was a very young boy, he would skip school and use his food money to go see the morning picture show. He always remained a big kid at heart. At the age of 14, he began a trade apprenticeship and made plans for his future.

A private, protective, kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather who was respected by many. He was generous and hard-working and created a good, honest, and beautiful life for his family. We couldn’t ask for better and wouldn’t have changed a thing. He said what he meant and meant what he said. Over his lifetime, he helped many. There aren’t enough pages to list it all and he really wouldn’t want us to. The many who knew him, knew he had a golden heart.

It fills us with peace and gratitude to know that he is Riding in Heaven.

Tony’s legacy lives on through his wife of 53 years, Indra, daughters, Shaida Dil and Nadeema Dil, grandson and granddaughter in-law, Robert and Melissa Persaud and great grandsons, Robert James Dil Persaud and Lucas Michael Persaud.

He is lovingly remembered by his sister, Roza (Haffiza) Wilson and brother, Rafick Mohammed.

Also warmly remembered by many relatives and friends including his sister in-laws, brother in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Habidan and Dil Mohamed, in-laws, Jassodra and Harry Seetaram, brothers, Nazim Mohamed and Hosein Mohammed.
