Tony “Papa” York, 90, of Fort Pierce, Florida passed away at Treasure Coast Hospice on October 7, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones.
Tony was born to Claty & Lilla Mae Cauthen York in Lapine, Alabama on December 20, 1933.
He was an elder of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, a truck driver for Sioux Honey Association for 14 years, which led to his passion of beekeeping for 26 years. He was a lifelong member of the Florida State Beekeepers Association, member of the Sioux Honey Association, served on the Florida Farm Bureau Board of Directors and various other boards and associations.
He was an avid gardener and loved tinkering with his lawn mowers and tractors after retirement. He enjoyed going to stay in his motorhome at Crescent Lake fishing for crappie and going to Bluegrass festivals with his wife Dolly.
Tony was known as Papa by his family, the stories of the past he used to tell will be missed by all. He never did anything halfway; it was the right way or nothing at all. We learned so much from him. He was a good provider for his family and would help anybody he could.
Papa is preceded in death by his wife, Dolly of 51 years and grandson, Anthony York.
Survivors include his daughter, Tina York; son, Tommy York and children, Christy York, Randy (Lisa) York, Katie (Herbie) Anderson all of Fort Piere, FL; 18 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and other family members.
Memorial contributions may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, 5000 Dunn Road, Fort Pierce, FL 34981. www.treasurehealth.org
