Vera Kingsbury Coykendall-Heffernan, 105 years old, passed away on August 4, 2017 in Fort Pierce, Florida.

Vera was born in Rochester, New York on October 14, 1911 and moved to Fort Lauderdale 1954, Fort Pierce 1987 and in 2006 she moved to Boone, North Carolina to be near her daughter.

She had a full and generous life. She saw many goals reached. Her legacy to her family was, “Always live by the Golden Rule and reach your fullest potential”. She often recalled a very special memory, the day WWI ended. She proudly held her little American flag at the Victory parade.

She was educated in Rochester and later followed her husband’s military career through WWII. She was an active Girl Scout leader, Red Cross Volunteer and founder of Broward County Officers’ Wives Association. She was also a member of The Fort Pierce Woman’s Club, St. Anastasia’s Bridge Club, St. Mark’s Catholic Church, and St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church (Boone, NC).

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Major FL Coykendall, and second husband and childhood friend, Major TW Heffernan.

She is survived by daughter, Beth Stafford Jones Fort Pierce, FL; son, Joel Coykendall (Joan Ballard) Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Rebecca Stafford Jones (Dr. Glenn Jones) Fort Pierce, FL, Robert Stafford (Ileana Cruz) Fort Lauderdale, FL, Katherine Coykendall Miars (George Miars II ) Charleston, SC, and Dr David Coykendall (Virginia Rorrer) West Palm Beach, FL; 9 great-grandchildren, Carly Beth Jones, Logan Jones, Jack, Lillian and Sara Beth Stafford, Emma, George III and Caroline Miars, and Alice Virginia Coykendall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to John Carroll High School, or to Adrian Dominican Sisters, “Ways to Give” at www.Adriandominican.org

Services: A memorial mass will be held at a later date at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and Fort Lauderdale Memorial Gardens.
