Vern D. Gosney, 83, died December 7, 2020 in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Vern Gosney moved to Fort Pierce in 1949 from Steubenville, Ohio. He attended local schools and graduated from Dan McCarty High School in 1956. He attended Florida State University for two years and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.
He then worked for the Fort Pierce Police Department for four years and operated Gosney Paint Store for several years. He worked for Ft. Pierce Coca Cola Bottling Company for 17 years, from which he retired. He then worked for Badcock Furniture for 14 years. He served in the Florida National Guard for over 21 years and retired from the National Guard as a First Sergeant from the A/3 256th ADE Company and the HQ-3 265th ADA.
Vern was very active in civic affairs in the community. He was Chairman of the Sandy Shoes Festival for four years and was the Fort Pierce City Commissioner from 1973-1974. He was the past president of the Fort Pierce Lions Club and was a deacon at First Baptist Church and a greeter at Westside Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Gosney of Fort Pierce, FL; daughters, Diane Douglas of Fort Pierce, FL and Sharon (Jim) Schuler of Port St. Lucie, FL; son, John (Alina) Gosney of Fort Pierce, FL; grandchildren, Matthew Schuler, Amanda Wilson, Christina Cooper, Allison Webb, and Jennifer Gosney; great-grandchildren, Lillian Marie Cooper and Oliver Wilson.
Services: Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 13, 2020 from 5:00-6:00 PM with a memorial service to follow at 6:00 PM at Haisley Funeral Home, Fort Pierce.
