Walter R. Gerus, Sr. died June 21, 2006 at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center, Ft. Pierce, Florida.He was born on September 3, 1920 and raised on the family farm in Tidioute, Pennsylvania . He served in the Navy during World War II, attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After the war he was an electrician with I.B.E.W. Local #56, Erie PA. for 37 years, serving as Business Manager for a number of years. While living in Erie he was a Mason in Keystone Lodge #392, serving as Master in 1974. He was an Episcopalian. In his retirement he enjoyed volunteering in St. Lucie County's Master Gardener program and was the first President of the Golden Ponds Homeowner's Association.He is survived by Constance, his wife of 60 years, three brothers, John, Harry and Theodore Gerus, two sisters, Anna Howard and Stella Merkle, and children Stephen Gerus (Rosemary Blieszner) of Blacksburg, VA, Adrienne Gerus (Richard Thompson) of Clemson, SC, Walter Gerus, Jr. of Christiansburg, VA, Sharlene Jochym (Eric) of Medford, NJ and Marsha Banfield (Dennis) of Oviedo, FL. The Gerus family is blessed with 8 grandchildren: Suzanne Gerus, Alexander Jochym, Mark Gerus, Nicholas Jochym, Breanna Banfield, Olivia Jochym, Emilyn Banfield and David Montgomery.
