Warren Alford
12/09/1932 - 11/13/2022
Warren was a native to Fort Pierce, born in 1932 to Otis and Emma Lou Alford. He graduated from Ft. Pierce High School in 1951. He was treasurer of his sophomore class and president of his junior and senior class. He was also president of the Letterman’s Club. Warren served in the Air Force for 4 years, and during that time, married the love of his life, Joanne. They were almost inseparable for 60 years.
His dream was to follow in his father’s footsteps and go into law enforcement. He achieved that dream when he was hired by the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Department in 1956. He rose through the ranks, achieving the rank of Lieutenant in 1965, and ultimately becoming Chief Deputy in 1974, where he served honorably until his retirement in 1985. He also served as President of the Indian River Law Enforcement Unit which included the counties of Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, and Okeechobee. Two years after retiring, he went to work for the Clerk of Circuit Court until 1999. He remained active as a volunteer at the Sheriff’s Office.
He loved being outdoors and stayed busy working in his yard. He loved sitting under his oak tree with family and friends telling stories and seldom missed eating at Chuck’s on Friday nights. Warren’s actions spoke better than words. He had a quality for patience, and ability to listen, to absorb and to offer a point of view based on quiet, measured wisdom.
What gave him much joy was his family and friends.
Warren is preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Emma Lou Alford; his beloved wife, Joanne; daughter, Donna Jo; and his brothers, James Otis Alford Jr. and Lt. John Harrison.
He leaves behind his daughter, Debbie (Ron) McGowan; grandchildren, Michael McGowen of Houston, TX and Kimberly (Josh) Callahan of Vista, CA; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Chance, and Tommy Callahan; sister-in-law, Barbara Alford; and many nieces and nephews.
