Wayne Cross

Wayne Cross, 59, died on Monday, January 22, 2007 in Fort Pierce, FL. He was born in Toronto, Canada, the son of Rev. Gordon Cross (deceased) and Joan Cross (Ft. Pierce).Wayne graduated from Dunedin High School in 1966, where he played on the State Championship Basketball Team. He attended St. Petersburg Junior College, and graduated in 1970 from the University of South Florida, with a degree in education. He served in the US Army from 1970-1972, then returned to USF to complete a Masters Program in Perceptual Motor Development.Wayne taught at Garden City Elementary, Lawnwood Elementary, and Lincoln Park Academy. He coached at the YMCA, John Carroll High School and Lincoln Park Academy.Wayne has been a member of First United Methodist Church for 30 years. He had served as the chairperson of the staff-parish relations team, was a member of the choir and performed in several church dramas. The church, the John Carroll and Lincoln Park Academy families were a tremendous support to Wayne’s family during these last few months and are greatly appreciated.Wayne was loved by his friends, colleagues, his kids at school, but especially his family. He died at home under the care of his family, with the help and support of Hospices of the Treasure Coast.He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Martha E. Cross of Fort Pierce; his mother, Joan Cross of Fort Pierce; his daughters, Martha Jean Richardson her husband Lee and their 11 month old daughter, Fiona Sabine Richardson of Little Rock, AK, Kate Elizabeth Rotindo (formerly of Ft. Collins, CO) and her husband Nicholas of Fort Pierce; a son, Everett Wayne Cross, a senior at John Carroll High School in Fort Pierce; a brother, Paul Cross of Lakeland, FL; mother-in-law, Harriett Garrison of Dunedin; sisters-in-law, Beverly Garrison of Dunedin, Sandy Garrison of Homosassa Springs and Dixie Rodel of Largo; and nieces and nephews.
