Wayne Scott Fuzzard, 70, passed away unexpectedly on March 25, 2018 at his home. Wayne was born on August 23, 1947 in Miami and moved with his family to Fort Pierce when he was seven. Following his graduation from Dan McCarty High School in 1965, he was signed by the Boston Red Sox farm system as a pitcher and hitter. His promising career was cut short after two years by a debilitating ankle injury.
Wayne was an electrician for many years before joining Allen Real Estate as a realtor. He later joined the Fort Pierce Housing Authority where he remained until his retirement. Wayne wanted to keep active, so he served part-time as Maintenance Manager at the Royal Palm Shoppes on US 1 in Fort Pierce and the rest with Christ Family Church in Tradition.
He is survived by his daughter Bree (Bob) Rains; grandchildren; Brylee, Luke and Lyla of Jacksonville; parents, JoAnn Allen-Kofoed and Bill Kofoed of Fort Pierce; sister Susan Grimes; nieces, Gracie Grimes of Okeechobee and Jamie Grimes of Columbus, OH.
Wayne’s ancestors were Florida pioneers. His great-great grandfather, John Geiger, was a pioneer resident of Key West. John James Audubon was a frequent visitor at Geiger’s home which eventually became what is now the Audubon House in Key West. Later ancestors moved to Miami in the late 1800s.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Family Church at Tradition, 10799 SW Civic Lane, Port St. Lucie, FL, 34987 or online at
