Wilfred H. Gulowsen

November 21, 1925 — January 14, 2012

Wilfred “Wil” H. Gulowsen, 86, of Vero Beach, (previously of Tulsa, OK), passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Indian River Medical Center, with his wife Joyce Gulowsen by his side.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 21, 1925 to parents Gotfred Gulowsen and Helen Hendricks. He attended University of New Mexico where he received a B.A. degree in Business. He served in the Merchant Marines before serving with the U.S. Army during World War II, and was honorably discharged in 1946.

He worked in the oil industry for over 40 years, transferring from outside of Philadelphia, PA to Tulsa, OK in 1972, and then retiring to Florida in 1991 where he enjoyed an active retirement and enjoyed travelling, theatre, crossword puzzles, reading, sports, fishing, rifle and shotgun shooting, jigsaw puzzles, and devouring the culinary artistry his wife served. He was adored by his friends in Walkers Glen, his family, and all that knew him.

He is survived by his wife Joyce Gulowsen, daughter Chris Lee and her husband Steven, daughter Laurie Shofner and her husband Hal, son David Gulowsen, (all from Oklahoma), and stepson Ogden Gorham, stepson John Gorham, and stepdaughter Margaret Gorham (all from Pennsylvania); seventeen grandchildren: Trevor, Ian, Christopher, Elliot, Eric, Jason, Jeffrey, Peter, Mary, Stephen, Christopher, Catherine, Martin, Adrienne, Amanda, Brianne, Haley; and five great-grandchildren, and his sister Marguerite Cummings.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Vero Beach (vnatc.com).

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach on Friday, January 20, at 11:00 AM.
