William E. Dowdy

William E. Dowdy, 65, died June 4, 2015 in Fort Pierce, Florida after a courageous, thirty
month battle against brain cancer. Bill was a gentle giant of a man whose heart expanded
with love for all those who were dear to him.

Bill was born in Huntington, West Virginia and moved to Fort Pierce in 1991 from North Palm
Beach, Florida. Bill graduated from Palm Beach High School in 1968 where his outstanding
contributions to the football team earned him a full scholarship to the University of Florida. Bill
played tight end at UF and was part of the 1969 Gator “Super Sophs”. As one of the stars of
that year’s team he caught 30 receptions for a total of 317 yards. A Florida Gator for life, Bill
treasured the friendships and memories made during those years.

Bill retired in 2010 after spending almost forty years as an owner/manager of several heavy
trucking companies in Florida and Colorado.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Dohrer Dowdy, of Fort Pierce; sons, Ryan Dowdy of North Palm
Beach, Tim Morris of Port St. Lucie, Blake Morris Dowdy of Fort Pierce, and Bobby Cox of Ocala; daughters, Christen Morris of Port St. Lucie, and Lily Dowdy of Fort Pierce; sisters, Debbie Kennedy of Jupiter and Denise Dowdy of Palm Springs; and six grandchildren. Bill was predeceased by his son, Ian Dowdy.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Bill Dowdy Memorial Fund for the Benefit of Blake and Lily Dowdy @ TDBank.

A visitation will be held Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 5:00 7:00 PM at Haisley Funeral Home in Fort Pierce. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, June 12, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. Anastasia Catholic Church.
