Captain William G. Thomas, Jr., 85, died November 1, 2011 in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Mr. Thomas was born in Haines City, Florida and moved to Port St. Lucie in 1987coming from Vero Beach, Florida.
William was a graduate of West Point Military Academy and while serving in the Military he received his Masters from Northwestern University. He was a Veteran of the Korean War and received two Purple Hearts. He worked for the State of Florida and then owned/operated a bookstore in Vero Beach. He was member of the Army Mutual Aid Association, served on the Vestry and Cursillos, and was a past president of the Indian River and St. Lucie County Hospice.
Survivors include his sons, W. Ross Thomas of New York City, NY, Thomas G. Thomas of Tallahassee, FL, Neil J. Thomas of Downingtown, PA, and David R. Thomas of West Palm Beach, FL; daughters, Ann M. Thomas of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Mary Thomas of Ft. Pierce, FL; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachall M. Thomas, sisters, Alice Ann Bartlett and Olwen Lavatelli and one grandson.
Services: A service will be held on Friday, November 11, 2011 at 2:00 PM at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.
