William Long Walker passed away on January 15, 2005 in Ft. Pierce, Florida after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.A descendant of the Reverend William Brewster, Bill was born in Natick, Massachusetts on October 16, 1917, one of five sons of George Harold and Lillian Seville Walker. He was educated in Dover, Massachusetts, graduating from and playing on the football team at Dover High School. He served in the Army Air Corps in England during World War II.On October 26, 1948, Bill married Elizabeth Roy in Williamsburg, Virginia and they settled in Yorktown Heights, New York where they lived for many years, while raising their family. He was member of the Yorktown Heights Kiwanis Club during most of his years there. After many years of employment with the Piels Brewing Company, Bill decided to attend City College of New York, where he studied to be an investment broker.
After graduation, he went to work for Shearson Hamill Company on Wall Street and 5th Avenue in New York City, moving next to Burbank and Company in Boston, Massachusetts and finally retiring in 1994 from A.G. Edwards Co. in Centerville, Massachusetts.Bill especially loved his time in Brewster, Massachusetts on Cape Cod, spending his summers at Brewster Park both as a boy and in retirement. He particularly enjoyed walking on the Brewster flats with his family and his dog, Joshua.He was preceded in death by his brothers, George Harold, John Minot, Edward Orlin, and Robert Conrad Walker.Bill is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 57 years, Elizabeth of Ft. Pierce, Florida, his daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and William and their children, Kate, Chris, Ben, and Sam Shorr of Portland, Maine, his son William Brewster Walker of Orleans, Massachusetts and his many beloved nieces and nephews.Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Guiding Eyes School for the Blind, Granite Springs Road, Yorktown Heights, New York 10598, or to The Broadmore, Alzheimer’s Assn.
