William (Bill) R. Neumann, Sr., 86, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at Laurel Pointe under the care of Hospice of the Treasure Coast in Ft. Pierce.He was born in Brooklyn, New York the youngest son of Amelia (Dilk) and William Neumann.He served in the Army during World War II, stationed in New Guinea and Japan. After his discharge he moved to Fords, New Jersey where he married his first wife, Virginia. Built his own house in Holmdel, New Jersey, they had one child, a son, William R. Neumann, Jr.In Holmdel is where he started his own business, Miracle Chemical Company which he operated for 30 years. It is now owned by his son, William, Jr. and is presently the largest distributor of chlorine in Central New Jersey.Bill loved speed; he built and raced outboard Hydroplane boats up the Hudson River between New Jersey and New York. He was an avid motorcyclist; it’s hard to say how many bikes he owned over the 60 years. He had a passion for Sidecars and he had many of them.
He was a Charter Member of the Raritan Road Runners Motorcycle Club of Red Bank, New Jersey. The club traveled from coast to coast including Canada over the years. He was also a member of the Treasure Coast Retreads Motorcycle Club of Florida and United Sidecar Association. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose #513, Port St. Lucie and West St. Lucie Elks #2823. He belonged to the Citizens Observation Patrol in Indian River Estates where he lived.When he married Dottie in 1989, they traveled the United States, Canada and Nova Scotia both by bike and motor home, which was another love that Bill had “camping.”He had a great zest for life and always welcomed a challenge. Throughout his life he made many friends and was known for his sense of humor, quick wit and interesting stories about his life.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Neumann.Survivors include his devoted wife of 16 years, Dorothy; son, William, Jr. and Diane; stepchildren, Anthony and David Dios and Theresa Ensminger; step daughter-in-law, Willa Dios; grandsons, Eric & Phillip Neumann; step-grandchildren, Anthony, Michael & Christopher Dios, Amanda and Brian Ensminger.
