William C. Ziegler, 89, of Vero Beach, passed on Saturday, March 3, 2017, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.
He was born November 25, 1927, in East Meadow, Long Island, NY, the son of the late William A. and Honora (Ferrier) Ziegler. He was a long time resident of New Jersey, prior to his moving to Fort Pierce in 1979.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed at Apple Savings Bank of New Jersey with Administration until retiring in 1978. He then moved to Ft. Pierce where he worked as a Corrections Officer for Indian River County.
In his younger days, he loved Boy Scouting. He also loved dancing and enjoyed life to it's fullest, bringing a smile to everyone's face and always had joke or story for every occasion. He was also extremely proud of his Irish heritage.
Mr. Ziegler was an active Parishioner of St. Cyril and Methodius Church of Ft. Pierce and St. Helen Church of Vero Beach. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus #3416 Indian River Council.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sixta F. (Feliciano) Ziegler of Vero Beach; a son Heriberto Valentine and his wife Maria of Allentown, PA; a daughter, Sylvia J. Ziegler Kahn and her husband James of Sebastian; grandchildren, Dana Valentine of Catskill, NY, Christa Pettinato of Point Pleasant, NJ and Eddie Valentine of Wall Township, NJ; eight great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Nina Valentine of Wall Township, NJ; and 2 nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Edwin C. Valentine of Ft. Lauderdale and a sisteer, Mary Morales of Ft. Pierce.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 9, 2017, from 4-7pm in the chapel of the Haisley Funeral Home, 3015 Okeechobee Rd., Ft. Pierce. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Friday, March 10, 2017, at 12 pm in St. Cyril and Methodius Church, 1002 Bahama Ave., Ft. Pierce. Encryptment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Ft. Pierce.
